Morton Blaze History
The Morton soccer program began in 1978 through the Morton Park District . It began with 17 players ranging from first to seventh grades. In 1979 the program grew to 43 players. The program was only run in the spring until 1980, then the fall session started and grew 83 players. Several age divisions were formed over the next few years including the first girls division in 1985. In 1986, the Morton School Board approved the high school soccer program. The first Blaze Soccer Club was formed in 1988, U14 boys. In 1989, the Morton Blaze Soccer Club was formed when its constitution and by-laws were written and a board was elected.
The Morton Blaze Organization was formed to promote the game of soccer in the Morton area for both boys and girls. Competition for the Morton teams comes from other teams in the Central Illinois area and beyond. The Blaze is a "non profit" organization governed by an all volunteer Board of Directors. The directors consist of six officers, all the coaches, and the team parent representative from each team.
Volunteerism is how this program will succeed; not only from the Board of Directors, but from the coaches, the parents of the players, and the true stars... the players. The sharing of our time and resources makes The Blaze program one of the best around.
The Blaze uses fields on land owned by and leased from the Morton Park District. Various field sizes are used to accommodate all age levels.
